How Sound can create the Ideal Environment for Classroom Instruction
Audio brainwave stimulation is a safe, cost-effective way to achieve specific states of mind (beta, alpha, theta and delta). The type of audio frequency generation that is capable of entraining brainwavessafely are dual independent binaural beat frequencies.. Teachers find that conducting their classroom activities while simultaneously playing these audio frequencies at a very low volume enables their students to be entrained in a more relaxed state of awareness. As various research studies have proven, students in a relaxed state are capable of assimilating and retaining more information than students who are in excited or anxious states.
Steve Brager is a Certified Resource Teaching Specialist in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Working with sound technology as an educational tool for enhancing the learning processes of his students, Mr. Brager describes what his students have gained: “Students with Attention Deficit Disorder are able to complete assignments on time while hyperactive students are able to stay on task for longer periods and focus their concentration on a given skill. These students were bound by their disability in the past, and their self-esteem struggled. Some students are now eager to learn as they are beginning to recognize their capabilities. Students have also learned to reduce their stress or anxieties resulting in a mind set more conducive to learning. Reducing stress or practicing relaxation as a skill has also been a vehicle to help students transcend problems at home that cause roadblocks to learning”.
There are two ways teachers and students use audio frequency stimulation. For personal use, where the listener will be stationary, headphones are the preferred choice. If the listener will be moving around or there are several individuals listening simultaneously, then stereo (or amplified or computer) speakers work best. The MP3’s used while learning are the five audio program set known as the 515. Programs two (Alpha), three (Alpha/Theta) and four (Theta) of the 515 were designed to enhance academic performance. And the audio frequencies
generated need not be played loud to be effective. The volume of the
515 MP3’s should be about the same as the "hum" of a fluorescent light.
Here are the 515 MP3’s program descriptions:
The 515 Energize (Beta) MP3 program is 10:09 minutes in length. You can increase the time by simply pressing ‘repeat program’ on your playlist for however long you desire. The program, like all five 515 MP3’s, is in dual independent binaural beat frequencies in the Beta and Beta/SMR brainwave range. This type of audio frequency stimulation results in longer brainwave entrainment than other types of frequency stimulation as shown on eeg/neurofeedback testing and is ideal for pre-physical exercise, motivation, jet-lag when traveling west and increased mental alertness.
The 515 Alpha MP3 program is 20:16 minutes in length. Program frequencies range from 8-12Hz which is referred to as the Alpha brainwave state and is ideal for relaxation and concentration.
515 Alpha / Theta MP3 program is a 7:10 minutes long brainwave frequency audio program in the 4-12Hz state of consciousness. Known as the hypnogogic state, this MP3 program is designed for deep meditation, inner-focused thought and profound relaxation.
The 515 Theta MP3 program delivers brainwave frequencies in the 4-7Hz range. Program length is 10:10 minutes. Designed for increased focus, this Theta MP3 program is excellent for learning, retaining new information and enhanced creative thought. This Theta brainwave program is also helpful when dealing with jet-lag during travel in an eastward direction.
This 515 Delta MP3 program is a 26:10 minutes long brainwave frequency session designed for going to sleep. The dual independent binaural beats utilized in designing this program range from .5-3Hz. When played at a very low volume, this program is an excellent aid for going to sleep and remaining asleep, waking refreshed.

Why You Should Add the Meditation Machine if You are Taking Yoga Classes for Stress…
Yoga and meditation are exercises for your mind, body and spirit. The Meditation Machine is the ideal compliment for your regular yoga routine. The Meditation Machine is a light and sound brainwave stimulator that gently catches your mind’s attention and guides you into very deep states of inner-consciousness…
The Meditation Machine
The Meditation Machine is an easily portable meditative tool for helping your mind experience consistently deep meditative sessions … without any conscious effort.
The Meditation Machine generates an incredible display of visual (via glasses) and audio (via headphones or earbuds) stimuli designed specifically for guiding brainwaves to slow down and focus inwardly. The Meditation Machine is versatile, and can be used before, during or after your regular Yoga workout. Many of our clients attend Yoga classes, and prior to their training use a 15 minute Meditation Machine warm up program. They find it to be an excellent method for focusing on their Yoga instruction and getting more out of their subsequent personal practice. For anyone that has trouble letting go, is conscious of their breathing while meditating, are restless and have difficulty sitting still, lack consistency in having positive meditative sessions, or dwelling on unnecessary thoughts and brain chatter, the Meditation Machine could be a very liberating release for their meditative experiences.
Brainwave entrainment is why the Meditation Machine works so well with Yoga meditation: Our minds "think" in terms of frequency. Brainwaves change frequencies based on neural activity within the brain, be it by hearing, touch, smell, vision and/or taste. These senses respond to activity from the environment and transmit that information to the brain via electrical signals. Hearing and vision are considered favorable senses for affecting brainwaves safely. By presenting the Meditation Machine’s audio beats and visual pulses to the brain, within a few minutes the brain begins to mimic or follow the same frequencies as the stimuli (the beats and pulses). This process is referred to as entrainment. In essence, the Meditation Machine speaks to the mind in it's own language- the language of frequency.
Meditation teaches us to focus inwardly, synchronizing brainwave pathways leading to complete mental, emotional and physical oneness. Maximize your next meditative experience with light and sound and sense how the Meditation Machine quiets your mind.
With the Meditation Machine your mind becomes naturally quiet through the process of entrainment. Brainwave entrainment is what occurs from the Frequency Following Response (FFR). Through the use of audio (headphones or earbuds) and visual (eye frames with LEDs) stimulation, listeners are gently guided into specific states of mind. Each audio beat and light pulse is a specific frequency. Our minds "think" in terms of frequency. By presenting these beats and pulses to the brain, within a few minutes the brain begins to mimic or follow the same frequencies as the stimuli (the beats and pulses). This process is referred to as entrainment. In essence, the Meditation Machine speaks to the mind in it's own language- the language of frequency.
As an example of the positive effects light and sound stimulation can elicit upon our own personal meditative techniques, consider since the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, over 60 U.S. Olympians have incorporated light, sound and the instruction of meditative brainwave focus training into their pre-Olympic workout regiment. They all brought home medals. All of these Olympians received their focus training from Rayma Ditson-Sommer, Ph.D., in Scottsdale, AZ. Dr. Sommer is considered a leading researcher in Sports Focus Training and has constantly demonstrated the benefits of light and sound through the successes of her professional and amateur athletes.
The Meditation Machine comes with: DAVID Delight Plus unit, Tru-Vu Omniscreen eyeset and carrying case, headphones, stereo patch cord, carry bag, 9-volt battery, AC adapter and operator’s manual. Attaining Peak Performance using the Right Side of the Brain
One of the primary goals for attaining peak performance stems from the research reporting that the execution of sports activity involves shutting down the pre-frontal cortex of the brain to allow the motor cortex to work without interruption. This is a direct result of our understanding that the right side of the brain is for excellence in performance and the left is for analyzing pre-performance. Therefore, the athlete who continually is concentrating on what he/she should be doing is doomed to a less than excellent outcome. By shutting off the right side of the brain and assigning the total task to the left hemisphere the outcome is less than desired. To insure a winning performance mental pre-swim rehearsal is very important. By notifying the brain that certain approaches are to be used the need for analysis is nil. The brain can then focus its direct attention to the swimming itself, by passing the left brain and prefrontal cortex thus adding greatly to the “independence” of the brain to perform. This skill of redirecting the brain to develop better focus requires a definite learning curve.
Practice is the road to excellence. However, you must engage mentally as you swim, thinking about the stroke, allowing your mind/body connection to evaluate how you feel in the water. Stay within the boundaries of your motor memory skills by thinking positively about what you are doing. Be cognitive of any distractions, stay focused using positive self-talk to keep the flow of dopamine actively feeding your brain and muscles with support and motor memory.
To insure the control of the brainwave for upcoming responsibilities the use of binaural sound and light along with color are key. Make sure the swimmer that he/she is prepared for the competition. Knowing that a competitive swim is in the high alpha and low beta region allows for an approach that insures the swimmer that the brain is ready for the competition. Light and sound neurotechnology provides this training for the brain and prepares the athlete.
Redirecting attention has a definite step-by-step progression. From the frenzy of the meet and the anxious feelings that can accompany it, to a state of being in the “now” or the present, calm, engaged and ready to swim. Immediately after a race the ability to redirect attention is a skill to be learned. It becomes highly important to push yourself into the “NOW” forgetting what was just completed and attend to what is now. One approach to redirect attention for better focus involves looking forward to the next swim. Not thinking about your stroke, who is in the next lane or breathing. Shutting down the prefrontal cortex of the brain by becoming input directed establishes a structure for the brain that involves the motor cortex and allows the motor memory to use all learned previously. When you state a specific goal for your upcoming swim your brain will switch from the emotional limbic system to the goal directed motor memory of the motor cortex putting to work all the practice sessions and hours of work. This approach will “pay off”.
To establish a pre-swim routine you must stimulate your mind by:
1. Calculate consciously your goals for the present swim. This will signal your pre-frontal cortex that information is coming in to be used soon
2. By connecting your motor memory with your goals you control your muscles
3. Quieting any reflex involving “fear paralysis” will support your motor cortex concerning the upcoming swim
4. These actions will allow you to enter a peaceful state for the coming event
Even though color, sound and vibration are experienced by both the right and left hemispheres of the brain, the right benefits greatly from stimulation related to all of these. Playing music, listening to binaural sounds, experiencing frequency stimulation “messages” the right hemisphere creating a positive learning site to be used in competition. This allows the motor cortex the freedom to send the motor memory the skills learned during practice rounds.
Using the right side of the brain to win, works. To keep this hemisphere happy and ready to function it is necessary to keep positive attitudes, self-talk and affirmations readily available when the time comes. It is of utmost import to keep a positive attitude using supportive thoughts and enjoying the competition.

Treating Anxiety in Pre- and Post-Surgery Patients
Multiple research studies have indicated that many adult patients who are undergoing anesthesia and surgery experience untreated anxiety and distress on the morning of surgery (
millions of Americans regularly use complementary and alternative therapies such as acupuncture, herbs, light and sound, and hypnosis.
Hypnosis is defined as a state of focused attention with heightened receptivity for acceptable suggestions. In this state, a person’s critical or skeptical nature is bypassed, allowing them to accept suggestions. A hypnosis procedure consists of an induction, which gets the patient into the trance state, and then the delivery of acceptable suggestions, which are delivered to the patient to help achieve the goals of the session. Given the increasing popularity of complementary and alternative medicine and the need for the development of new non-pharmaceutical preoperative interventions, a randomized attention- controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of hypnosis as a treatment modality for management of preoperative anxiety was performed. The reader should note that the study was aimed only at measuring the impact of hypnosis on anxiety before surgery. Under the conditions of the study, hypnosis was found to dramatically reduce the anxiety of patients undergoing ambulatory surgery, indicating that one preoperative hypnosissession is very efficient in reducing the anxiety and fear before surgery.
Enter light and sound. Light and sound can enhance the work of physicians, psychologists, hypnotherapists, anesthesiologists and everyday people simply trying to cope with their anxiety.
How? With special lightframes over your closed eyes and headphones over your ears, you are immersed in colorful geometric patterns and entrancing sounds. The light and sound pulse rate shifts from your normal waking state of beta to the selected state (alpha, theta or delta) as the session progresses while brainwave activity will follow the pulse rate of the light and sound stimulation and fall into synch, referred to as entrainment.
Begin with (and most often stay with) frequencies around 9Hz (although sometimes down as low as 4Hz). Some prefer using light and sound stimulation pre- and post-operation exclusively while others, after using brainwave entrainment for this purpose, continue to use light and sound stimulation indefinitely. Regardless, it is clear that the majority of those who used light and sound brainwave entrainment for their pre- and post-operative anxiety found the stimulation to be quite helpful. Among the most common findings are:
A rapid decrease in both autonomic nervous system hyper-arousal/hyper-reactivity and muscle tension;
A longer and longer duration of these positive effects the more frequently they use light and sound stimulation;
A rapid increase in mental calmness and corresponding decrease in "monkey mind" (thoughts all over the place);
Rapid improvements in sleep (reduced latency to sleep onset, decreased night waking, and increased sense of restfulness come morning) when they use it at regular bedtime and again if they wake during the night and are unable to fall back asleep within 15 minutes;
Self-initiated changes in both behavior and cognitions.
The positive effects noted above are even more remarkable given the anxiety levels typical of most patients preparing for surgery and the adaptations and adjustments needed post surgery.

How does Audio and Visual Entrainment help in overcoming alcohol addiction?
Hey drinkers, denial isn’t the only option. There’s that deep-down emotional feeling of shame, failure and humiliation when admitting we have a drinking problem. Denial is easier. We seem to keep lying to ourselves until we reach that well-known goal: hitting rock bottom. So now we’re down to two choices: quit drinking and live or keep drinking and die.
Obviously you chose to quit or you wouldn’t be reading this post. Deciding to quit is a tense time. Everything seems uncertain yet we know we must stay positive. We need support, but whom do we ask? Admitting we are powerless over alcohol and asking those close to us is strength, so ask!
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) provides support, structure and guidelines for living clean and sober. AA has meetings everywhere, throughout the day and night. Attend meetings, find a sponsor, gradually open up, and work the program. That’s basically the AA way and for thousands of people AA has been their gateway to sobriety.
Rehabilitation Centers for alcohol addiction treatment can be lengthy and expensive. And they offer no guarantees. Finding the right rehab center shouldn’t be a hasty decision. Talk to your doctor, get their opinion of which center they think will best meet your needs. When speaking to a representative of potential treatment centers ask them what tools they utilize for relapse prevention. That’s important!
Making the commitment to stop drinking requires follow-through, like for the rest of your life, just in a “one day at a time” kind of way. That is a simple way to remind you to relax and focus on the moment. Maximizing your ability to be relaxed and focused greatly diminishes negative thoughts like stinking thinking from occurring.
So how do we maximize our ability to relax and concentrate? Meditation. It is way too much to expect a recovering addict to instantly achieve a relaxed state of mind at will. To relax down deeply through the alpha brainwave state and into theta, that twilight state just before sleep, have an audio and visual entrainment (AVE) device that will gently guide an individual to the desired brainwave state (beta, alpha, theta and delta) without any conscious effort. An AVE instrument is a mind entrainment tool. The method by which this entrainment occurs is known as the Frequency Following Response (FFR). Through the use of audio (headphones) and visual (eye frames with LEDs or RGB-based LEDchips) stimulation, partici- pants are gently guided into specific states of mind. Each audio beat and light pulse is a specific frequency. Our minds "think" in terms of frequency. Brainwaves change frequencies based on neural activity within the brain, be it by hearing, touch, smell, vision and/or taste. These senses respond to activity from the environment and transmits that information to the brain via electrical signals. Hearing and vision are considered favorable senses for affecting brainwaves safely. By presenting these beats and pulses to the brain, within a few minutes, the brain begins to mimic or follow the same frequencies as the stimuli (the beats and pulses). This process is referred to as entrainment. In essence, AVE instruments speak to the mind in it's own language- the language of frequency.
AVE devices are beneficial, affordable and built to last a lifetime. They contain specially designed programs targeting specific states of mind that generate the pulsed audio and visual frequency stimulation by the touch of a button.
From the moment you begin life alcohol free be aware of your mental, emotional and physical states. And keep a journal. Write down your thoughts and feelings. As the days turn into weeks you can look back at how you felt when you first began and compare them to how you are feeling today. Sometimes our changes are so subtle only when reading earlier entries do we become aware of those changes.
Have an AVE instrument and use it daily for at least thirty days. A thirty minute theta relaxation program once daily can do wonders for newly sober attitudes. AVE is a tool to improve your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing, while simultaneously giving you a meditative approach to relaxation without the years of practice it takes to truly reach a deep theta state at will.

HOW TO ACQUIRE EMOTIONAL WELLNESS
Practitioners in the field of alternative health and holistic healing have realized that color can be a highly useful part of any protocol focused on maintaining wellness. Practitioners in many countries are particularly vested in using color, light and sound as treatment for emotional and mental challenges.
The brain’s ability to process stimuli entering through the eye or ears is amazing. As the light enters the retina the brain recognizes and processes color thus impacting visual perception and behavior. The power of color and sound are the very essence of life. It may well be the most magnificent experience we take for granted. Color is around us everywhere. It embraces us and we interpret life through color much as we do shape, texture, and sound.
19th century American Surgeon E. Babbit, M.D, reported that colored lights promoted significant healing results by affecting the human energy fields through the pathways of the nerve fibers in the skin. Dr. Babbit also discovered the strong connection through the eye to the limbic system of the brain. These pathways are responsible for emotions and are activated by color.
The Mindgear MindLightz method for the merging of color and sound is somewhat unique. The MindLightz was developed using Bluetooth technology to enhance the brain’s utilization of certain brainwaves to complement the mental state desired and stimulate positive responses. All MindLightz light and sound sessions are available on your Apple App foe iphone or ipad. For your wireless Bluetooth lightframes and headphones this light and sound websitecomes highly recommended.
The most exciting way in which color, sound and light finds their way inside the subconscious mind, the immune system, the limbic system and the nervous system has only recently been discovered. Using your MindLightz color-galore lightframes and binaural sounds will help you become more positive in meeting challenges. It will provide you with the energy necessary to make new beginnings and enable your migration to a positive life style.
Everyday our sensory systems use color and sound to give meaning to our lives. The use of sensory inputs stimulates the inner strength we posses. This enables us to lead better lives through helping us find solutions, realizing messages instinctively, and seeing pathways to achievements never thought possible. We are guided by our own contemplations as we look inside ourselves and find new raw powers; the lack of fears or inhibition, and higher levels of self-function.
Learning is the gift of the mind to the body. How to, when to, and all other variables that accompany life decisions are monitored by the mind. Decisions are based on what has been learned. Almost all programming or in-printing, both negative and positive, is accepted by the time we are three years old.
The way we were treated previously molded the way we treat ourselves today. Hopefully, changes will occur for those who did not experience positive input during their early lives. The need for an improved mental outlook is learned by developing new thought processes, using the more able parts of the mind. The use of color, light, and sound stimulation is not to alter the mind but rather facilitate the learning of new concepts.
Research has shown that light can stimulate changes in lymphatic fluids and blood, and affect nerve synapses. After being energized by a color, the effect is transmitted to specific sites in the brain where the light energy is dissipated.
Color, light, and sound sensory stimulation is a useful modality to affect personal change. This is important as it relates to a normal progression of learning by the brain. Through this modality, there is no altering of the mind, but rather a personal awakening, allowing a self-imposed ability to affect change. In other words, you learn to change a thought process by understanding that, that thought will cause pain or discomfort.
Any sensory organism seeks change to better the situation. Color, light and sound sensory stimulation acts as a coach, or guidance mechanism for a person seeking change or modification to their thought processes such as autism. By using sensory stimulation a road for connected thought is constructed for use to further contact and learning.

How can I go to Sleep and remain Asleep without Nighttime Medication?
Sleepless nights happen to us all. Payments become due, supervisors go on rants, youngsters wanting something new every stinking week... there are times when the brain needs to reboot. It can be an endless list of stress-inducing, sleep-depriving negative stimuli that become a cacophony of jumbled thoughts or as some describe being brain chatter, even stinking thinking. There have been periods of time when going to sleep and remaining asleep without nighttime medication seemed impossible.
Why is it the more 'advanced' we become technologically the harder it is for us to just plain relax, close our eyes, take a nice deep breathe, and fall peacefully to sleep? Media and pharmaceutical giants bombard the public about sleep deprivation-based research studies, constantly reminding us that our society as a whole, our ability to get enough sleep is in decline. Many are getting less sleep, with results suggesting not-so-positive outcomes: like less patience, quicker to anger, depression or emotions that can be misconstrued as aggression.
If you suffer from any type of sleep disorder, such as insomnia, bruxism (teeth grinding) or experience nightmares, seek professional medical help. Ask questions. Find out what alternatives to prescribed medication are available. The more informed you are, the greater chance you have for overcoming insomnia.
Or you can go directly to the source of your sleepless nights- your brain –and gently guide your brainwaves from the waking state of beta down to low delta brainwaves referred to as the sleep state.. Delta Brainwave Frequency Stimulation. Delta brainwaves are the predominant brainwave being generated in our brain during sleep. Being able to produce a predominance of delta brainwaves should help in conquering insomnia. There are Delta Sleep Sessions available as MP3s and in the best light and sound machines. As stated in Mind States / An Introduction to Light and Sound Technology: "Dr. Jerry Cunningham has observed that utilizing light and sound in this fashion will assist patients who have a sleep dysfunction as part of their symptom pattern get to sleep easier and remain asleep. A light and sound Delta brainwave session can be the ideal "at home" adjunct to any professional medical treatment you may be receiving."
So if you cannot sleep and feel at wit's end, there is hope: listen to a delta brainwave sleep session at bedtime. With a light and sound delta for sleep session the gentle lights and soft audio binaural beat frequencies should bring effortless sleep within minutes. MP3 binaural beat audio brainwave frequency sessions will also generate delta brainwave frequency predominance, leading the mind and body into deeply relaxed sleep.
There is a very non-intrusive method for anyone interested in using delta for sleep brainwave sessions. Rather than using headphones or earbuds to receive the audio signal, simply use an inexpensive pair of computer-type speakers and connect to the headphone audio port of your smartphone, MP3 player or light and sound machine. Adjust the volume to a very low level, like just below the threshold of your hearing. Louder does not make it better, and even though the use of headphones would be a more effective approach, the use of speakers for 'room entrainment' has been repeatedly proven successful.

Does Light and Sound Stimulation really help the mind?
Over these past twenty-seven years I have witnessed some fascinating and very positive changes in people who have utilized brainwave frequency sessions via light and sound stimulation. What follows are two examples I would like to share with you that have made a big impression on me personally and hopefully serve as "food for thought" for you, in terms of realizing the mental, emotional and physical benefits gained from using light and sound brainwave stimulation.
The experience with Jane Powell (not her real name) happened in the winter and spring of 2002. Jane was a head nurse at a large Los Angeles area hospital until she started suffering from the spastic form of Muscular Sclerosis. In a short period of time, Jane became confined to a hospital bed and wheelchair. Her left arm, hand and both legs became paralyzed.
Because of the M.S. and the medications she took, there was a strong possibility of seizures occurring should she utilize light and sound stimulation. So she sought and received medical clearance from her physician. She then started utilizing a light and sound instrument. She used her unit frequently, often doing multiple brainwave frequency sessions daily. Jane never did experience any seizure activity.
Thirty days after beginning her light and sound sessions, Jane experienced a decrease in muscle cramping, a decrease in muscle spasms, the fingers of her left hand began to move on command and she gained an overall sense of wellbeing. Like her doctor, her nurse and her physical therapist, both Jane and I were totally amazed.
The other experience happened in the summer of 2013. A good friend of mine had lost the majority of feeling in both of his legs. Frank (not his real name) called and asked if I would help him deal with the stress this was causing.
All we wanted was to help him relax. Frank is a prime example of how light and sound stimulation can affect everyone differently. Normally alpha frequencies will create a feeling of calmness, but it is different for Frank. Having done light and sound sessions in the past, where his base rates (heart rate, left and right brain states, left and right GSR and skin temperature) were taken before and after each session, we agreed on utilizing higher frequencies, gamma to be exact.
When Frank arrived for his first session, he was walking with the aid of a cane. That first session, as with the five that followed, consisted of gamma light, sound and tactile stimulation all synchronized to 360 degree orbital motion. The gamma session Frank experienced was custom designed. It consisted of gentle ramping between 37Hz and 42Hz with a time length of 30 minutes.
This high frequency, multiple stimulation method was based on a little known technique created by the late David McLaughlin, considered a pioneer in the light and sound industry. After the first session ended Frank stood without the aid of his cane. In fact, he stopped using it entirely. After the third session, Frank went jogging. After the fourth, he took his girlfriend dancing. And after completing all six sessions, Frank was back to his old self again.
Both Jane and Frank succeeded because they were able to access the areas of their minds that gave them the power to do so. Light and sound brainwave frequency stimulation softly guided their minds to the desired state of consciousness that best met their goals.
In July of 1985, light and sound helped me overcome my addiction to alcohol, but that’s a positive example best saved for another time.
